A unique and ground breaking series for BBC 3 using a  cast of puppets. Qurios was brought on board to supply titles and a range of subtle effects. Our work includes shots of exploding dogs and pigeons, electrocution, vomiting and burning.

We also supplied a number of composited shots, placing plate footage of Canary Wharf into the background of establishing shots.

Ingenious is a 1 hour special featuring over 40 effects created here at Qurios. Lime Pictures commissioned Qurios to design, build and animate a 3D dragon for their HD production.

As well as a fire-breathing dragon Qurios also created animated doves and shots of a radio telescope which was composted into the background of various shots.

The Well
The Well

Qurios has recently completed a complex liquid simulation for new horror drama, The Well.

Qurios was asked to enhance live action footage by creating CGI liquid, nicknamed ‘death vomit’, which included bones and other material. The liquid bubbles and spews out of a well, splashing and interacting with the live action location and actress. The liquid replaced still water to add more dynamic action to the sequence.

Qurios created several CGI swords for shots of actors being stabbed through the back. The swords were tracked to the moving actors and animated to match the stabbing movement.

Lighting was also matched to the scene and the illusion was completed by recreating the soldiers tunic in the computer and animating it to interact with the movement of the sword.

Digital set extensions, 3D magic carpets & a stained glass window featuring 80's boy band Bros. All in a days work for Qurios. A series of sketches set in Rome required major 2D and 3D matte painting, composting and crowd replication.

A sketch set on a magic carpet was achieved by shooting Omid against green and compositing him into several stock footage plates of clouds. His carpet was reproduced in 3D, animated and given a magical trail of sparkles.

Spooks Series 5
Spooks

Construction and animation of an exploding car door which was required to 'hit' actress Anna Chancellor in the back. Using on-set reference of the practical car door Qurios constructed a 3D computer model which was animated being blown from the car body.

Additional smoke and particles were also added. Final compositing was undertaken by Pepper Post where the 3D door elements were added to practical explosion footage to create the final shot.

Bonkers
Showreel 2008

This six part comedy drama required an unusual mix of visual effects and animation. For several shots Qurios used rotoscoping techniques to create a glowing edge around an actor. Other fantasy elements included creating a dark void of sinister clouds where a suburban garden once was. Finally we had to create a show-within-a-show: The Telly Bears. This child-friendly show took on nightmarish aspects when the bears transformed into evil killers!
